Cheshire Butterfly Conservation Fund

1st Biannual Training Day for recipients of the Cheshire Butterfly Conservation Award

The Fund was established in November 2001. with the sole purpose of awarding annual memberships of Butterfly Conservation to wildlife rangers, wardens, etc. (mainly in Cheshire) in recognition of their contribution to butterfly and moth conservation whilst carrying out their daily duties.

The Award comprises the following;

  • Membership to Butterfly Conservation (normally £24 per year); includes six informative newsletters per year, an invitation to the Annual Members' Day and membership of the Cheshire and Peak District Branch of Butterfly Conservation
  • Access to expert advice, scientific papers and reports on the conservation of butterflies, moths and their habitats, through contact with experts employed by Butterfly Conservation
  • Free biannual training days organised by the Cheshire and Peak District Branch

The fund-raising target is £15000, which will enusre 90 awards per year for the next 10 years or so. Currently there is sufficient funding to enable 40 Awards to be presented.

The first Training Day will be held on Thursday 8th May 2003 and will include the presentation of Awards and guest speakers' presentations. Butterfly Conservation's Regional Development Officer for North England, Dr Sam Ellis, will be delivering presentations on butterfly identification, recording and transect monitoring and habitat management, and National Wildflower Centre Senior Project Manager, Richard Scott, will be giving a talk about the 'creative conservation' practised by Landlife.
