Common Black Ant (Lasius niger) nest
The Silver-studded Blue, like some other blue butterflies, has a symbiotic relationship with black ants (Lasius niger and L. alienus). This type of association gives both the ant and the butterfly advantages it would not normally have. This is a typical nest of L. niger.
